Safe, Chemical-Free Bug Repellant
Making your own bug spray might seem a little intimidating but with a little bit of effort and a little bit of time, it’s really not that hard. You will need some specialty ingredients, but luckily, everything you need can be found online and can be shipped in a couple of days.
Get the Right Ingredients
First things first, here are the ingredients you will need to make you homemade bug repellent:
- Witch Hazel (or rubbing alcohol)
- Glycerin (for those of us with alcohol to balance its effect on skin)
- Essential oils including citronella, eucalyptus, clove, lemongrass, and lavender
- A 16oz mason jar
- A clean spray bottle
Mix Up the Recipe
Gather up your ingredients and let’s get started! First, add 12oz of alcohol-free Witch Hazel to a mason jar or something similar in order to mix the formula. Alcohol- and paraben-free Witch Hazel assures your mixture will be all natural and completely kid safe. Next, add 15 drops of citronella, 15 drops of lemongrass, 8 drops of lavender, 8 drops of eucalyptus, and 1 clove.
Once all the ingredients are added, mix well and let sit for a few minutes. Mix again after the formula has had a chance to sit, then pour the contents from the mason jar into your spray bottle. Give it one more shake once it’s in the bottle then give it a try! We bet you’ll be amazed by the results.
